Aniseed's report would have been given straight to IRS command, not posted anywhere publicly, so please keep your knowledge of this post OOC :) Also, LJ icon will change when I have a picture of Aniseed :P

Date of patrol: 7th October 112 AE
Date of report: 8th October 112 AE
Reporting: Warden A. Teasel

The activities of the day were a very useful introduction to the members of the IRS and an important opportunity for learning our major strengths and weaknesses. Each activity was of high value, and I personally took a lot from each. Volunteers were tested for affinity to the FRAN and DAWN; I did not demonstrate a knack for either, but almost the entire party found a way to connect to at least one transport method.

As reported to Lt Longford upon our return, the trip to the Grove of Leaves was not without incident. The party encountered around a dozen shambling mounds, and many members of the party (including myself) took injuries defending ourselves against them. At the Grove, we discovered an ‘elder mound’ had awakened and, whilst previously friendly, was attacking the druids. We assisted them in dispatching the mound before the ceremony to test for DAWN affinity was conducted. We were thanked for our actions and formally welcomed into the Grove. Pathfinder Eirlys Perdii (apologies if the name is incorrect) performed the ceremony to return us to Griffin Keep and did so with admirable skill.

Those present appeared to encompass a suitable range of roles, including scouts, heavy warriors, spellcasters and healing. So far the main hole in the party’s capabilities is a mage or priest capable of supplying defensive and enhancing castings.

As a personal assessment of my own performance, I would say that the day’s training highlighted a number of weaknesses or mistakes I need to address. My largest error was getting myself poisoned by a spider; I should have shown more caution and am grateful to Artificer Brandon for healing me. My general awareness could be much improved as I was generally the last person to spot the Pathfinders on the scouting task, and I need to become more clear at indicating the direction of a threat. I missed opportunities to identify proof of wrongdoing during the mediation task, and must take care not to look just at physical evidence but to establish the truthfulness of those involved as well. On a more general note, I need to become better at getting out of the way of incoming weaponry, as I went down frequently during the ambassadors task and was the most heavily-injured member of the party when we were attacked by shambling mounds. I unfortunately had to use much of the resources available to me keeping myself up and about, rather than being able to direct this towards the rest of the party. They were certainly more adept than I at not getting hurt.

During the day I ended up in a number of leadership roles, though only one was clearly defined. In our group of five (myself, Guard Grogg, Wizard Drift, Wizard Fireheart and Wizard Nevarsin), as healer and the most communicative Defender, I assumed a de facto leadership role, and they later nominated me as the group leader for the mediation tasks. I did not have any defined leadership task during the excursion to the Grove of Leaves, but sort of fell into an unofficial role as I attempted to keep the party together and organised. I have no previous experience of leadership and was also, in most cases, acting without official authority – I can see many places for improvement should similar opportunities come my way in future, including gaining a better understanding of the best tactical positions for a party when under attack. My knowledge is currently limited to ‘keep eyes out, have a rearguard, keep the fighters and armoured people in between the enemy and the vulnerable party members’. I also need to learn to prioritise correctly when my party is still making their way through dangerous territory, but the Pathfinder has shouted back that there is trouble up ahead that they need help with.

On a more positive note, I feel I worked well on the first two puzzles, and helped contribute to innovative ideas on the ambassadors task.

I can offer some brief opinions on the performance of other members of the party – I did not have time to meet everyone, and may have some of the names wrong.

Guard Grogg: A reliable and robust member of the party. Performed well throughout the day, particularly as the transport for the Lord and Lady during the ambassadors task.
Pathfinder Eirlys Perdii: Demonstrated considerable natural aptitude for DAWN in returning us safely from the Grove of Leaves. Good scouting with clear reports back to the party as to what they could expect to face.
Wizard Thyrion Fireheart: Confident in his abilities and has so far been able to live up to this. Sharp, sensible, useful skirmisher and a valuable addition to the patrol.
Wizard Drift: Not many opportunities to see her magic in action today, but very good at keeping out of the way of danger, and her ability to know what we were looking at was very useful.
Wizard Haster Nevarsin: Didn’t really see what his spell abilities were. Has a tendency to drift off and needs to be frequently reminded to work with the rest of the party in maintaining a defensible formation or united front.
Warden Maidholme: Sensible and reliable.
Marshal Diamond: An essential part of the party going to the Grove of Leaves. She kept herself out of danger and used her power well to keep people on their feet.
Acolyte Columbus: Adept at defending with his staff and very willing to step into a fight. Kept me from getting more hurt than I did.
Acolyte Wyld: Responsive and responsible member of the patrol – kept himself safe, defended others, and provided valuable advice on how to interact productively with the druids.
Archer James: Useful with his ranged attacks.
Humact Nicodemus: Very polite gentleman with useful castings.
