Dear Aniseed,

Hope you're well. We did miss not having you around at harvest - let's face it, you're more suited to that work than I am. It is a sad truth that you may be a fancy-pants healer who can raise the dead and do all sorts of religious stuff, but at home your biggest asset is that you have strong arms.

Dad threw the last sickle at the necking, so everyone else owes him a favour or a drink by the end of the year. He's looking forward to cashing them in.

Mum and Dad invited me home because a circus was coming to Langbaurgh on Monday. They'd set up at the weekend just south of the village, but then a patrol came along and killed them all. We've got a couple of questions for you, Oh Experienced One.

1) Should we be worried? Or do things like this really just randomly happen?
2) The poster said they had a tiger tamer. We're keeping the sheep and cows penned in for the next few days (and trying to keep the chickens in the barn), but if a tiger eats the livestock, who does Mum write to for compensation?
3) The Defenders or whatever will take care of removing the tents and dealing with the bodies, right? Will they get buried in our village? I can' imagine Grandma being happy at having a grave next to a circus freak.

Mum and Dad send their love and say keep it up with the charity work.

GMs: If anything I've written needs changing to be in line with your lore/plot/history/anything, just let me know :)

Wow! Another amazing game - and an intensely powerful, and I think overall positive, experience for Aniseed. Thank you to everyone.

Below is Aniseed's prayer from the first game. There is a big fat trigger warning on it: it has graphic descriptions of violence and gore, very dark themes, self-harm and attempted suicide.

Thank you, Hannah, for coming up with this. She unknowingly hit trigger points for Aniseed again and again, as there's a lot of stuff I've written for her but which hasn't been worth sharing.

Had a great weekend - thank you to everyone who was there. Things that stand out in my memory right now are:

Take your characters back to rank 5.

What would they do if they were thrown into the Hunger Games?

How long do you think they'd survive? What would their tactics be? How would they get sponsors? Which of their skills would be most useful in the arena?

Clicked a link on Reddit. Turned out to be screencaps of a woman trying to eat a brussel sprout and having a panic reaction.

Must not click on the comments.

Must not look at this anymore.

Internet denizens + my eating problem will not end well.

The Housemate has a swollen, painful ankle that is hot to the touch and won't bear weight. We are going with RICE for now, and if there is no improvement when I get home from work I'll take her to the doctor's. Until then - any suggestions? Any advice on use of a bandage? She has one wrapped around the ankle right now to prevent her from accidentally turning it and hurting, but neither of us have expertise in how to treat a sprained ankle.

Things from today:

  • Shakira seems popular on German radio

  • Queuing in Germany is a very different experience to queuing in Britain

  • I found pictures of my colleague Sebastian on the website for his larp group -

  • I ate spicy chips today!

  • We compared ways to mess around with someone's computer if they leave it unlocked. Voted the best: screencap their desktop, set it as the background, and remove their icons

  • Being in Germany makes me appreciate just how much French I actually know

  • What does bis mean? That word is everywhere.

  • There's a sign on one road saying 'ich will die Supernanny'. I'm guessing the gentleman pictured is not declaring his intention to continue a career in childcare into his grave?

  • I keep wanting to say dankuwel instead of dankeschern

  • While I was in McDonalds, there was a little girl counting as high as she could in English - fifteen, sixteen, seventeen ... um ... eighteen, nineteen, twenty, twenty-eins, twenty-zwei ...

I'm flying out to Germany on Monday evening, coming back Friday night.

While I'm there, could I ask you guys to remind me to go to bed early, even if I'm not tired? By 9pm European time/8pm British time? I suspect I might need a bit of help.

Thanks :)

Dan has also done a fantastic recolouring of this.

Had a surprisingly helpful chat with my colleague Zahraa in the car this morning, discussing my need for time to practise self-care and balancing it with my avoidant tendencies. She pointed out that I haven't had a rest day - or even rest evening - in ages. As I can't cancel this weekend's activities, and next week is full of very important meetings, I need to put a selection of the following into practice:

1) Use leave to take tomorrow off and rest - no sewing, making or planning.
2) Do not attend Friday and/or Saturday of the Vampire game next weekend.
3) Do not attend BathLARP next Sunday.
4) Do not actually larp this Sunday, and spend the day sleeping in the SU.

I am already planning to leave Bath as early as possible this Sunday, and will be bringing bedtime forward to 9 or 9:30 Monday - Wednesday to help with my meetings. Any suggestions or advice for which of the above options I should take? My mind is revolting at the thought of having to cancel anything fun.

Found this while cleaning up my Google Drive. Set shortly after one of Thalassa's deconditioning sessions - the one where, for a moment, she was able to resist the trigger phrase.

At some point this morning, the world changed. )
