Had a surprisingly helpful chat with my colleague Zahraa in the car this morning, discussing my need for time to practise self-care and balancing it with my avoidant tendencies. She pointed out that I haven't had a rest day - or even rest evening - in ages. As I can't cancel this weekend's activities, and next week is full of very important meetings, I need to put a selection of the following into practice:

1) Use leave to take tomorrow off and rest - no sewing, making or planning.
2) Do not attend Friday and/or Saturday of the Vampire game next weekend.
3) Do not attend BathLARP next Sunday.
4) Do not actually larp this Sunday, and spend the day sleeping in the SU.

I am already planning to leave Bath as early as possible this Sunday, and will be bringing bedtime forward to 9 or 9:30 Monday - Wednesday to help with my meetings. Any suggestions or advice for which of the above options I should take? My mind is revolting at the thought of having to cancel anything fun.

If it helps, I think I'm going to have to call our RP this evening off. Everything is broken at work, I'm the only manager for my team - and thus the only one taking complaints - and BT is being extra unhelpful - I've spent the last 4 hours chasing them over one single issue that they've ignored for the last couple of days. Argh.

But yeah. You are defo not the only one having 'curl-up-in-toilets-try-not-to-cry' moments; while we'll of course miss you at the meal/larpy things, think getting yourself well and healthy and feeling more resilient is definitely more important. If you ever need to chat, drop me an email.

Also, with regards to what to do above, I'd say earlier bed times should definitely be one, from my experience. Time off in its entirety for me tends to improve my state while I'm off, but then the shock of heading back into work when I go back can often land me right back where I was, or a couple of times I've been even worse off than I started.

If you have to skip a vampire larp, Saturday is probably the more sensible of the two - it'll probably be combat, so Andrea won't miss anything she'd have been present for given she's a squishy, and it means you get a decent night's rest before you LARP?

I'd say keep at least one of the Sunday larps - exercise endorphins are always helpful to have, and linear larps will help with that. ^_^

Thanks :) No worries on the RP, and I'm going to try and be good and go to bed early tonight as my sinuses have decided they hate me. I've also decided that on Sunday, while the others larp, I shall bed down in the SU or at Alex's and sleep.

The advice on which Vampire game to skip is good - and an evening off in between the two other games sounds like it could be very useful.

Sounds like a fair plan to me, and better than burning out. It sounds like you've already worked out what to skip, so will be around to offer encouragement/reminders if that would help?

:) Thanks. Would you help me stick to my plan by reminding me not to pack monster kit for this weekend? Otherwise I know I'll turn up on Sunday wearing blacks and asking you all to let me play, please let me play ...
