Found this while cleaning up my Google Drive. Set shortly after one of Thalassa's deconditioning sessions - the one where, for a moment, she was able to resist the trigger phrase.

At some point this morning, the world changed. She doesn't know quite how, and she certainly doesn't know why, but she can taste the difference on the air each time she breathes in.

For weeks, for months now, she has been fighting to stay alive. Not fighting to win, not fighting to defeat her opponent - she's been scrapping and brawling just to tread water. She has known her victory is impossible, but refused to accede. It's been hopeless, but she won't let her win just because she can't lose.

But the world shifted, and maybe that's not true anymore.

This morning, Thalassa pushed, and she gave way. It was impossible and exhausting, and the moment was fleeting. But the world is different now. Everything has changed.

She can lose.

Thalassa can win.
